TVCC Building of New CCTV Headquarter on Fire, Main Building Safe and Unscathed

Foreword: Fire Sweeps TVCC Building of New China Central Television (CCTV) Headquarter at 8:27p.m. on February 9th. The fire was under the control at 2 a.m. in the morning of February 10th. CCTV Main Building whose curtain wall project built by Jang Ho was safe and unscathed in this fire disaster.

Construction of New CCTV Headquarter consists of A section (CCTV Main Building and Service Building) and B section (TV Culture Center-TVCC Building). China State Construction Corporation Engineer Ltd. is the general contractor of A section, and curtain wall is built by Jang Ho Curtain Wall. Beijing Urban Construction Group Co. Ltd. is the general contractor of TVCC building, and the curtain wall was built by another curtain wall company. TVCC is the building that caught the fire in this accident.
Jangho Curtain Wall Putting Safety Preventive Measures into Effective execution
CCTV Main Building is only two or three hundred meters away from TVCC building that was on fire. Since the safety measures has been highly emphasized by Jang Ho, put the safety measures into execution effectively, and take strict precautions against the impact of the fire, which make sure the security of CCTV Main Building — the landmark building of new CCTV headquarter.
In view of the rules and regulations concerning the firecracker during Chinese New Year stipulated by Beijing Government, CCTV project department of Jang Ho works out the fire safety precaution measures thoroughly during Chinese New Year. Transferring the material stored at site to the warehouse underground, furnishing with sufficient fire water supply, and cleaning up all those garbage and combustible remnant at site; Meanwhile, 2 managing personnel and 6 workers were arranged to stay at the site during Chinese New Year for the fire safety supervision; daily inspection was carried out to the warehouse, office and residential at job site, checking and recording are executed completely, which ensure the fire safety during Chinese New Year.

February 9th, 2009 is the 15th of January in Chinese Lunar Calendar (Lantern Festival) is the climax to set off the firecracker. Therefore our project department held a special fire safety precaution meeting and assign safety preventive works for all staff of project department. Complete inspection was carried out to all the area where the firecracker may splash down, 1 managing personnel and 2 workers were arranged to supervise at the roof of the base, top of Main Building and base lobby. It is clearly required that the person on watch was not allowed to leave until the finish of firecracker, and confirm no safety hazard.

At about 8:40 P.M. on Feb.9th, safety personnel of the new CCTV headquarters project department of Jangho Curtain Wall found that northeast corner of the roof for B section of the new CCTV headquarters project (curtain wall project for TVCC Building) is black smoking at the first time during their inspection. They reported to related leaders and got explicitly direct that they must take strict precautions against fire entering the new CCTV Main Building. All management of Project Department called in all workers for emergency standby immediately as to prevent fire affecting curtain wall of the new CCTV Main Building resulting form fire propagation and spark. Mr. WeiDonghai, chief designer of curtain wall of the new CCTV Main Building and deputy chief engineer of Jangho Company show on the spot and guided the work. Under powerful guidance of our company and earnest organization of the Main Contractor, we pooled the wisdom and efforts of everyone and dedicated ourselves to fire protection of the Main Building.
As of 2:00 a.m., the fire has been under effective control with efforts of firefighters. Thus, the new CCTV Main Building for A section has overcome ordeal. And all people till now can relax and breathe freely.
To forestall future trouble, CCTV Project of Jangho Company still arranged main management to inspect and stick to their post.

As for the fire accident, leaders for Jangho Company have fully confirmed work of all staff for CCTV Project with their earnest and careful attitude during daily safety prevention, their powerful measures and their positive response and fighting tooth and nail in the face of Disaster. Jang Ho Company publicized a notice of award within the scope of the whole company.
As for the climate is dry currently and fir accidents often happen in this season, Quality & Safety Department calls on all staff of project departments to learn a lesson from this accident and do all kinds of fire prevention and safety work well, inspect strictly and carry out earnestly so as that fire prevention and safety work can be interconnected; meanwhile, site management shall be further strengthened and all safety and fire hazards shall be eliminated immediately. All safety accidents shall be forestalled strictly so that we can be responsible for safety of people’s lives and properties and protection for healthy and harmonious development of enterprise.
